Wakefield Free City Bus

The Wakefield Free City Bus does link the bus station and both railway stations with the corner of Waldorf Way. If you do ride the Free City Bus you are best getting off by the Peugeot dealership so press the button as you go under the railway bridge and pass the Cars2 dealership, The Space is back over the road behind the Cars2 dealership. Buses run every 10 minutes until 1900 Monday to Friday, and until 1700 on Saturdays. Note that if you get on the Bus at Westgate Station it will take you on a tour of Wakefield which includes the Bus Station and Kirkgate Station.

You catch the bus outside the entrances of both train stations.

Directions from Westgate Station

Trains between Leeds and Sheffield via Moorthorpe, and to Doncaster via South Elmsall all stop at Westgate. London KX and other Express trains to/from Leeds also stop here.

You can catch the Free City Bus from the bus stop outside Westgate. It does however take you the long way round and on a tour of Wakefield if you catch it from here. The last buses are around 1900 on Thursday and Friday and 1700 on Saturday. See above for more detailed instructions.

The Space is about a 10 minute walk from Westgate Station. The entrance to the Station is no longer on Westgate so turn right out of the station and walk down until you get on to Westgate, when on Westgate turn right again (you'll pass the old entrance) and walk under the railway bridge. Cross the road and walk through the retail park along Charlesworth Way passing Toys R Us and Cineworld. When you reach the end of Charlesworth Way you should see The Space ahead of you behind the car dealership.

Directions from Kirkgate Station

Trains between Leeds and Sheffield via Castleford and Barnsley all stop at Kirkgate. Trains to Pontefract, Huddersfield and the Grand Central London KX train also stop here.

You can catch the Free City Bus from the bus stop on Kirkgate. The last buses are around 1900 on Thursday and Friday and 1700 on Saturday. See above for more detailed instructions.

Walk out of the station and turn left on to Kirkgate at the derelict Wakefield Arms pub and cross the road using the nearby crossing. Walk past Halfords onto Ings Road, continue along this road until you come to Sainsbury's on your left. At the roundabout turn left onto Denby Dale Road and walk under the railway. Just after B&Q on the right and Cars2 on the left at the roundabout turn left and The Space will be in front you behind Cars2.

Directions from Bus Station

Services from Arriva (109,128,130) and Yorkshire Tiger (435) all pass The Space. On the 443 press the button to get off as it goes under the railway bridge at Sainsbury's, on the other buses get ready when you pass McDonald's on your left hand side. Both stop at the same place just after a roundabout.

The Free City Bus also leaves from the Bus Station, see above.

Alternatively you can walk from the bus station. Walk out of the station and through the Market Hall (or round it if it is closed) into the Bull Ring. Continue walking down here on to Westgate, you'll see The Black Rock on your left. When you see Sports Direct on the left walk down either Queen Street or Market Street until you get to the Bingo and Royal Mail, keep walking down past those to the Roundabout. Cross here and walk passed Sainsbury's and under the railway bridge. When you get to the next roundabout and the Cars2 dealership The Space is on your left.

Outside The Space is a private rented car park. Last year on Thursday Evening, Friday Evening and all day Saturday the gate to the car park was open and parking was available, we will try and arrange something similar this year but no promises.

There is no parking available at The Space on Thursday Afternoon or Friday Afternoon.

Please note: The Space do not sell tickets for the Beer Festival.
